The Great Gatsby essay
On the last line of the book it said " so we beat on boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past". Which I believe it is the most important line in the hole book. This line embody the thematic conflict that defines the Great Gatsby because it's saying if you keep fighting about the past or keep talking about it the current would take you to the past and wouldn't let you move forward. I believe this effect the book because J. Gatsby felt like he was living in the past and couldn't move forward because he tried changing the past while the people around him tired to move forward. He also threw parities around his big house to try and get people to think about him differently then they do trying to change their mind about him.
At some points of the book Jay Gatsby loved Daisy just after he kiss her and and he tried to get Daisy to tell tom she loves Gatsby not him and leave him. I believe at this part of the book Jay Gatsby is still living in the past and trying to get Daisy to love him back since he really loved her deeply. In chapter 7 it said he had fallen in love with five years before the summer of the story. That attests to the idea that Jay loved the idea of Daisy more than he loved the person. Another bit of evidence that leads to that idea is that Nick notes when Jay and Daisy have reunited after the tea party at Nick's, that Jay's list of enchanted objects had been reduced by one; as if there was a slight anti-climax to the renewal of his and Daisy's relationship.
I think that Gatsby would be better if he stops trying to change the past and leaves the past because he would keep feeling lonely every time his parties fishes and everyone leaves home. I also think that if he keeps trying to change it he would also stop being confused. He also haves lots of hope of trying and change the past past. In constitution I believe that floating with the current is bad in stead of fighting against it and tries to move forward.
