Brave New World Essay
In Brave New World there are so many characters who question everything in the Reservation. In this essay I will be talking about John and how he questioned everything throughout the book. John is the only person in Brave New World who was born naturally by a mother. He represented a unique human being in this book with an identity and a family relationship unlike any other character in this book. John grows up in a squealer of the Savage Reservation and is treated differently then anyone else.
Linda turns out to be the mother of John which is very different in the World State. At some point of the book she visits the Reservation and finds out she is the mother while the ex-director is the father. When there was a meeting on Bernard discussing if he should get banished to the Iceland John comes in calling the '' ex- director'' " daddy" but he denies everything and the crowed started laughing because they think it is a sick joke. After Linda and John proved it he was forced to quit his job and run away during the middle of the meeting. This goes with the book main idea because there are used to being born from a lab and not from a mother like the ''Savages''.
While John is in this new Reservation for him he meets a girl named Lenina and gets feels for her. For someone to have feels for someone in the Reservation is bad because there used to sleeping with everyone. As time goes on his feelings for her get stronger up to the point where he quotes Shakespeare poetry to her. When Lenina took her pills to fall into a soma in the helicopter John just stars at her and says poetry quotes. Lenina try to have sex with John because he was different but john didn't want to and called her a whore.
Lenina's relationship with John brings her to an emotional, physical, but not intellectual experience of love. Her love for John makes her the victim of John's violence twice, yet she represents the rare potential to see beyond it but cannot live freely. When John and Lenina was in a room alone she was forced to lock herself in the restroom because of John violence but she didn't leave even until he left the room. Even though John was mean to her in many ways they still liked each other no matter what happens between them. Although she may not acknowledge it Lenina believes everyone belongs to everyone else.
At chapter 18 John wanted to be alone and away from everyone so he went to the light house. John’s feelings for Lenina were overwhelming him. While John is in the light house reporters come to interview him but he kicks a reporter and demand them to respect him. Lenina steps out of a helicopter and walks to him with arms open but he starts to whip her and other people join in while he was getting all his feelings out on her. The next day he remembers everything so he ends up hanging him self.
